    Paul has worked at RSSL for 5 years as an analytical scientist specialising in chromatographic techniques initially leading the pharmaceutical method development team before moving to lead the taints and off-flavours team to apply his expertise in GC-MS techniques for the food industry. Prior to RSSL Paul has worked in a number of analytical fields including, pesticides, explosives and environmental monitoring.

    Presentation Synopsis:

     The presence of compounds causing taints and off-flavours in food and raw materials is a major concern for the food industry. If the organoleptic properties of a food or drink product are not as expected, this results in a lack of consumer confidence and perception of poor quality leading to consumer complaints, brand damage and a potential costly product recall.  It is therefore critical, at the earliest sign that robust analytical procedures using specialist techniques are used to identify the taint and trace it back to its source.
